Friday 22 March, 2019, 8pm, Summerhall, Edinburgh
Call for Proposals: Deadline Sunday 10th February

There will be a basic standard of entertainment for all. We anticipate that there will be acts for everybody, but you may need to share. The art shall be sufficient and the safety standards in the vicinity of expected targets. Some negligible sacrifices may have to be made, but we believe that, in the end, these are worth it for the greater good: an adequate cabaret. We’re all in it together. We hope to have sufficient numbers of seats. In 2019, ANATOMY pledges to provide the very minimum amount of performance that is needed to survive, but accepts that, in the short term, some of it will come in dehydrated, powdered form.

Triumphantly entering our seventh year in a golden age of cultural wealth, ANATOMY is a quarterly live art cabaret based in Edinburgh’s Summerhall and occasionally venturing elsewhere. We seek proposals from fearless artists to tell cockamamie half-baked dogtales. Or not. We seek iconoclasts, film-warpers, grotesques, thumpers of technology, immersive weepers, levitating playwrights, jugglers of industrial salvage, puppet dancers and throat gymnasts.

We are looking for fearless proposals for of things that can be presented in a room with an audience, 5-30 minutes in length, regardless of trend, style, medium or constitutional preference. For our spring event, we are asking you to make do with stockpiles and pipedreams, to tell us adequate stories of working visas and regulatory harmony.

ANATOMY is especially welcoming of artists who face marginalisation, including D/deaf and/or disabled people, LGBTI+ people, women, people of colour, working class people, and people from any related background or identity. We have an accessibility policy to support this work. If you feel you are often excluded from performance opportunities, we would like to include you and hear how we can do that better. We have a budget to help meet individual access needs.

Selected acts will receive:
– A £100 fee per performer for the performance, plus travel expenses
– Accommodation if needed with Anatomy family and friends
– Rehearsal space in Summerhall as required
– Full technical support for the show
– Photo and film documentation of the performance

We are currently unable to host aerial performances. One day we will be able to fly.

For more on what we’ve done, see our past events. For some advice on applying, see this blog.

To apply, please download an application form and a voluntary diversity monitoring form and return, completed, to by 23:59pm precisely of Sunday 10th February. We welcome proposals in alternative formats if this is better for you; please contact us for details.
